PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball Returns Home On Friday Against SCSU

Eagles Dropped Early-Season Matchup Between The Two

WATERBURY, Conn. - Senior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) and her Post University women's basketball team returns to the Drubner Center on Friday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. when they take on the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University in a rematch of a Nov. 23 game, when the Owls defeated the Eagles, 87-72 in New Haven. It will be just the second home game of the season for the Eagles, and their first since Nov. 20.
 
The Eagles are coming off of a 93-77 win at Wilmington as Latham scored a career high 41 points in the win and set a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference record, making 16 free throws without a miss. Freshman Liz Falcigno (Middletown, Conn.) finished with 20 points and senior Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) finished with 14 rebounds.
 
Currently, the Eagles are 4-5 on the season and undefeated in conference play at 4-0, good enough for a tie for first place in the North Division of the CACC.
 
High Honors
Latham was honored as the CACC Player of the Week for the second time this season for her phenomenal game against Wilmington. To go along with her 41 points, Latham also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists to go along with five steals. She was 16-for-16 from the free-throw line which was a CACC single-game record for free throws made without a miss.
 
Falcigno was honored as Co-Rookie of the Week for her game against Wilmington. She was 8-for-12 from the field and 4-for-6 from the free-throw line.
 
Leading The Way
Latham leads the CACC in two major categories as she is first in points per game at 25.2 and first in field goal percentage at 58.0. She is also fifth in three-point field goal percentage at 43.5. The senior is third in nation in points per game.
 
Wright-James leads the conference in defensive rebounds at 71. Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) is fourth in the conference in assists at 4.2 assists per game.
 
When They Last Met
In the Nov. 23 loss to the Owls (4-4, 1-3 Northeast-10), the Eagles led 44-41 at the half before the Owls took control in the second half, outscoring Post, 46-28 in the second half, thanks to a 21-8 run midway through.
 
Three players scored in double-figures for the Eagles, including Latham (21), Wright-James (18) and sophomore Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.), who scored 15 points.
 
The Eagles are looking for their first win against their in-state rivals, as they are 0-2 all-time against the Owls.
