CALDWELL, N.J. – A last-second shot by Caldwell's Torey Jones sent the game into overtime where the Cougars prevailed against the Eagles, 71-62, on Thursday, Feb. 9. With the defeat, Post stands at 6-16 overall and 4-11 in Central Atlantic Athletic Conference (CACC) play.
Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) was one of three Eagles in double figures, finishing with 22 points on the night.
Casey Brooks (Highland, N.Y.) shot 5-for-9 from distance on her way to 15 points.
Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied 11 points and eight rebounds.
Caldwell jumped out to an early 6-0 lead at the 18:04 mark of the first. The Eagles answered with a 9-2 run to go ahead 9-8 with 14:08 remaining. Latham dropped in seven points during the stretch. Brooks hit a three at 11:26 as Post took its largest lead of the half at 18-13. The Eagles took a 28-27 advantage into the half.
Latham scored seven of the Eagles first ten points of the second half, as they gained their largest lead of the game at 39-31 with 14:46 remaining. A 13-5 run by Caldwell over the next seven minutes tied the game 44-44.
Latham hit from distance to break the 52-52 tie with 1:47 left in the second half. Stephanie Cadet answered with at three of her own to tie the game 55-55 with just over a minute left. Jeanette Anderson fouled
Kelli Reynolds (Milford, Conn.) with three seconds in regulation. Reynolds nailed both free throws to put Post ahead 57-55. Jones jumper sent the game into the extra period.
The Eagles took a 59-58 lead early in overtime on a Reynolds jumper, but hit just one more shot in the period. Caldwell was perfect in the extra session, shooting 4-for-4 from the floor and 6-for-7 from the free throw line as they won the game 71-62.
Post made 10 three-pointers on the night, led by Brooks with five and Latham with three from distance. The Eagles swatted away four shots, led by Chance with two blocks.
The Eagles will be back at home on Saturday, Feb. 11 for the Play 4 Kay doubleheader against Chestnut Hill. The goal of the games is to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
