WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball team won its fourth straight game on Tuesday, Feb. 21, defeating Nyack 97-52 at the Drubner Center on senior night. The winning streak is the longest for the Eagles in over seven seasons.
The seniors made the most of their final game and accounted for over 55 percent of the offense with 54 combined points, led by
Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 19 points and 21 rebounds.
Diaysha Brewington (Lynn, Mass.),
Kelli Reynolds (Milford, Conn.), and
Taylor Doyle (Mystic, Conn.) finished with 15, 14, and 6 points, respectively.
Jessica Webber (Naugatuck, Conn.) had a season-high 16 points off the bench.
Reynolds scored off the opening tip as the Eagles pulled away early. Brewington put Post ahead 8-0 with a jumper at 17:39. The Eagles stormed out to a 16-0 lead at the 14:44 mark of the first. During the stretch, Chance scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Nyack put its first points on the board at 13:42 on a three by Ashley Tallman. Post extended the advantage to as many as 21, before heading into the half with a 43-23 lead.
Five straight points to start the half for the Warriors pulled the score to 43-28, but it would never get any closer. The Eagles put the game out of reach with a 21-5 run in the middle of the second half to take a 64-33 lead with 10:02 remaining. Brewington and Chance combined to score 14 straight points during the run. Webber scored 12 points over the final seven minutes as the Eagles tallied their highest point total since 2005-06.
Post grabbed a season-high 64 rebounds, doubling the Warriors total of 32 boards. The victory margin of 45 matched the season high from Nov. 11 against Queens, in which the Eagles won 93-48 in the season opener. The Eagles shot an impressive 56.3 percent in the second half as they went 18-for-32 from the field.
Post finishes up the season with an overall record of 10-16, their most wins since the 2005-06 season and were 8-11 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
