NEW CASTLE, Del. – Casey Brooks (Highland, N.Y.) shot 5-for-5 from behind the arc as the Post University women's basketball team defeated Wilmington on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Pratt Center, 75-49. With the victory, the Eagles have surpassed their win total from a year ago and now stand at 9-16 overall and 7-11 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
Brooks led all scorers with 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting. She also filled the box score with seven rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.
Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) chipped in 19 points and 12 boards.
Kelli Reynolds (Milford, Conn.) and
Diaysha Brewington (Lynn, Mass.) also finished in double-figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Post took control of the game early on with an 8-0 run over the first four minutes. Senior Reynolds scored five points in the stretch. The Wildcats answered, scoring seven straight points to pull within one at the 12:36 mark of the first, but would not get any closer.
Brooks made three from distance as part of a 17-1 Eagles run that build the lead to 25-8 with 5:24 remaining in the half. Post went into the locker room with a 39-18 advantage.
In the second half, the Eagles pushed the advantage to as much as 31 points, before taking the 75-49 victory. Latham scored 13 points in the period.
The Eagles were 8-for-13 from behind the arc as a team and outrebounded the Wildcats 52-35. Post outscored Wilmington 22-16 in the paint and 20-11 off turnovers.
Despite the victory, the Eagles were eliminated from CACC playoff contention as Bloomfield defeated Chestnut Hill, 61-45, to clinch the fourth seed in the CACC North Division.
Post will close out its season on Tuesday, Feb. 21 against Nyack. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
