Eagles Defeat Caldwell 70-62 With Strong Second Half, Earn Eighth Consecutive CACC Victory

Post Sits At 4-0 in CACC Play For First Time In Program History

WATERBURY, Conn. – After finding itself down 35-28 at the break, the Post University women's basketball team shot 53.8 percent in the second half on its way to a 70-62 victory over Caldwell on Tuesday night. The Eagles now sit at 4-3 overall and 4-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. Post has won its last eight conference games dating back to last season.
 
Graduate student Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied her second consecutive double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Fernanda Mansilla (Ancud, Chile) filled the stat sheet with 10 points, nine assists, and six boards.
 
The Eagles made seven of their first nine shots as they stormed out to a 16-4 lead at the 14:10 mark of the first half. Senior Casey Brooks (Highland, N.Y.) and junior Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) combined for 10 points during the push.
 
Post went cold from there as Caldwell staged a 17-0 run over a stretch of 6:42 to pull ahead 27-19 with 5:58 remaining in the half. Wright-James stopped the run with her only three-pointer of the contest. The Cougars went into the break ahead 35-28.
 
Sophomore Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) hit a shot from distance to pull the Eagles within one at 46-45 and spark a 14-4 run with 13:06 remaining. Pugh scored all seven of her points in the game during the comeback.
 
Freshman Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) hit her only basket of the contest at the 4:22 mark to give Post its largest lead of the second half at 61-51.
 
The Eagles held the Cougars to just 9-for-31 shooting in the second half. Post forced 11 turnovers in the second period which led to 12 points.
 
Post will be back in action on Thursday night for a non-conference matchup at Molloy. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
