PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball Opens Season At Queens Tournament

Eagles Finished 2011-12 On Four-Game Winning Streak

The Post University women's basketball team opens up its 2012-13 season this weekend at it heads to Flushing, N.Y. for the Clarion LaGuardia Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Queens College. The Eagles will play the College of Saint Rose on Friday, Nov. 9 at 8:30 p.m. and Queens on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. Post won its final four games of last season on its way to a 10-16 record and 8-11 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. The Eagles return four players that started 20 or more games last season.
 
The College of Saint Rose had an 18-10 record last season and was 14-8 in the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10). The Golden Knights defeated Post, 80-53, on Nov. 12, 2011. Saint Rose was picked sixth in the NE-10 Preseason Poll. They return guard Gabie Polce, who was named to the NE-10 All-Rookie Team in 2011-12.
 
Queens struggled to a 1-25 record in 2011-12 and failed to win a game in East Coast Conference (ECC) play. Its lone win came against CACC member Nyack, 67-54. The Eagles defeated the Knights 93-48 to open last season. Queens was picked ninth in the ECC Preseason Poll. The Knights return their second leading scorer from last season in junior guard Catherine Pastor.
 
POST IN SEASON OPENERS
The Eagles have not fared well in season openers as they have a 2-8 record since the 2002-03 season. Last year Post defeated Queens College 93-48 to open the year. Its last opening win before that came against Green Mountain on Dec 11, 2003, 67-50.

SCHULER NAMES THE CAPTAINS FOR HIS INAGURAL CAMPAIGN
Post University women's basketball head coach Stephen Schuler named senior guard Casey Brooks (Highland, N.Y.), graduate student Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior guard Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) captains for the 2012-13 season. Brooks is one of the Eagles' top shooters. She led the team and was second in the conference with a 38.9 shooting percentage from behind the arc. Chance was 13th in NCAA Division II with 11.3 rebounds per game and named CACC Honorable Mention in 2011-12. Latham led the Eagles in scoring in 2011-12, averaging 15.5 points per game. She comes into the season just 238 points away from 1,000 for her career.
