Stephen Schuler won his first game at the helm as the Eagles breezed over Nyack on Wednesday night 73-46 in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener. Junior
Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) led the Eagles with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.
Juniors
Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) and
Fernanda Mansilla (Ancud, Chile) added 13 points each in the victory. Mansilla also dished out seven assists and grabbed six boards. Graduate student
Monique Chance (Brooklyn, Conn.) pulled down 12 rebounds and scored seven points. Senior
Casey Brooks (Highland, N.Y.) scored seven points and grabbed seven boards.
Nyack to an early 9-7 lead at the 13:31 mark of the first. Threes by Mansilla and Wright-James helped Post pull ahead 13-11 midway through the half. With the Eagles up 19-16 with 4:23 remaining in the first half, Post stepped up its defense and held Nyack scoreless for the remainder of the period. The Eagles closed out the stanza on an 11-0 run to head into the break with a 30-16 advantage.
Post shot just 9-for-38 in the first half, but held the Warriors to 4-for-26 shooting in the stanza to build its 14-point lead at the intermission. Latham had 10 points in the half.
The Eagles put the game out of reach with a 14-1 run over four minutes to make the score 70-42 with 2:04 remaining. Post scored on seven straight possessions and missed just one shot over the stretch. Sophomore
Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) scored four points and grabbed two rebounds during the run. Post shot 53.3 percent on 16-for-30 shooting during the second half.
The Eagles dominated the glass and outrebounded the Warriors 63-33, and held a 24-11 edge in offensive rebounds. Post turned the 24 offensive boards into 20 second-chance points. Nyack shot just 14-for-57 on the night and were 15-for-32 from the line.
Post opens its home schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 20 against Concordia in a CACC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
