Eagles Fall To Queens College In Clarion LaGuardia Tip-Off Tournament

Pugh and Jessamy Lead Post With Nine Points Each

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Post University women's basketball team fell to 0-2 to begin the season after losing to Queen College, 65-46, in the Clarion LaGuardia Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles were led by sophomore Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) and freshman Toshina Jessamy (Hartford, Conn.) who each scored nine points.
 
Pugh hit her first two shots from distance to give Post an early 6-2 advantage at the 18:33 mark of the first. She tacked on another one at 15:23 to cut the Eagles deficit to 10-9.
 
Bria Jackson hit a three-pointer at the 8:27 mark to extend the lead for the Knights to 23-15. Jessamy scored five straight points for Post to pull the Eagles within five at 25-20 with 6:44 remaining in the stanza. Queens reeled off an 11-4 run to take a 35-24 advantage into the break.
 
The Knights extended their lead to 41-27 out of the intermission after a layup by Tara Fearon. Junior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) and graduate student Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored on back-to-back possessions to cut the deficit to 41-31 with 14:28 remaining.
 
Jackson scored eight straight points as part of an 18-3 run by Queens to extend the advantage to 59-34 at the 7:06 mark. Junior Jessica Webber (Naugatuck, Conn.) capped off a 10-1 run by the Eagles with a free throw off a made layup to pull Post within 16 at 60-44 with 2:23 left.
 
The Eagles caused 17 turnovers on the afternoon and scored 13 points off giveaways from the Knights. The bench for Post outscored the Queens reserves 26-19.
 
Post opens Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Nyack. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
