Women’s Basketball Falls In Conference Opener

Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn ( December 3, 2011) After holding a five point lead at halftime, second half struggles hurt the Eagles as they dropped their CACC opener to Felician on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles led for most of the first half, extending the lead to 11 points with 6:47 left on a made jumper by Monique Chance, two of her 10 points in the period. The lead was due in large part to Post make all 18 of their free throw attempts. Felician cut the lead to three late, but two free throws by Casey Brooks pushed the Eagle lead to 40-35 heading into the half.

Post came out of the locker room and missed 14 of their first 15 shots, which put them in a 50-44 hole. Fouls by Felician helped the Eagles stick close during the cold stretch, as they continued their hot shooting from the line in the second half finishing 27-32 on the day.

A three-pointer by Colleen Hanscom with 5:55 remaining, put the Eagles ahead 66-64. They would extend that lead to 72-66, with just 2:53 left. Destiny Barnette, who had 18 points in the second half, hit a go-ahead jumper at 1:52 off her own miss to put Felician ahead 73-72. The Eagles would try and foul to get back into it but it was too late as they fell 80-74.

Hanscom led with 18 points and hit three three-pointers on the day. Leading scorer Aubrey Latham only managed six points, but came up big on the glass with 13 rebounds. Before fouling out with five minutes remaining, Monique Chance had 11 points, seven rebounds, and five blocks.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday night as they head to Bloomfield.
