Post University Women's Basketball Falls to Philadelphia 73-67

WATERBURY, Conn (February 20, 2010) Post University Women's Basketball lost a close conference game to the Philadelphia Rams 73-67 at the Drubner Center Saturday afternoon. The Eagles are now 6-18, 2-14 CACC. The Rams improve to 14-10, 12-4 CACC.
Post University's Mallorie Michalak scored 16 points, while Elizabeth Johnson netted 14 with 13 rebounds. Philadelphia's Jessica Romano scored a game-high 17 and 14 rebounds.
In the opening half, the Eagles jumped to an 8-2 lead after game opening three point buckets from Mallorie Michalak and Elizabeth Johnson. The Eagles led a majority of the first half until the 8:12 mark when Philadelphia's Nina Brascetta hit a three, knotting the game at 16.
Moments later, Philadelphia sophomore forward Christine Wooding hit consecutive field goals to give the Rams a 25-19 lead.
Post University would not give in as time ran down in the half after Johnson hit a three with 1:05 to play. On the next possession, Johnson hit a layup giving Post a 30-29 halftime edge.
In the second half, the Eagles jumped to a 33-29 lead, but by the 7:33 mark the Rams had built up a 16 point advantage. Michalak and Johnson would team up to cut the lead to 3 with 48 seconds to play.
With :28 second to play in the game freshman Aubrey Latham hit a three cutting the Ram lead to only two, 69-67.
Brascetta would go to the line for the Ram's making one attempt making it 70-67.
On in inbound play, Michalak turned the ball over by dribbling into the backcourt. On next play, Kate Brennan went to the line making the first and missing the second. Post University's Michalak committed charge allowing Wooding to hit two from the line sealing a 73-67 win.
Post University will be back in action again on Tuesday night on the road against Caldwell.
