Lady Eagles Lose a Heartbreaker to Dominican 63-61

DOMINICAN, NY (February 18, 2010) Post University's Women's Basketball team lost at the hands of Dominican College 63-61 Thursday night in a tight game at the Hennessy Center. The Eagles now stand at 6-17 (2-13 CACC) while the Chargers improve to 11-13 (8-8 CACC).

The Eagles took the lead with 10:39 remaining in the first half when Mallorie Michalak (15 points, 4 assists) fed Aubrey Latham (10 points, 5 rebounds) for a lay-up. The Eagles stretched the lead to as much as 7, but went into halftime with only a 2 point advantage, 36-34.

The second half followed the same pattern, with the Eagles maintaining a small lead throughout. That is, until the final minute of play when Rachelle Sainten (13 points, 3 assists) fed Marley Klunk (5 points, 6 rebounds) for a jump shot, giving the Chargers a 1 point lead. Monique Chance (17 points, 8 rebounds) had a shot to give the lead back to the Eagles with 9 seconds remaining, but Klunk came up big again with a block and rebound before being fouled by Chance. Klunk only made one of her two free throws, but made amends by stealing the ball back as time expired on the clock.

Liz Johnson also scored in double digits for the Eagles with 14 points, and Linsey Lopez led the way for the Chargers with 17, followed my Adele Laskowski with 14.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday as they host Philadelphia University. Tip-off is slated for 1:00pm.
