Softball Drops Two On Final Day Of Florida Trip

Udris With Hits In Nine Of Her Last Ten Games

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Post University softball team closed out its series at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. on Thursday. The Eagles fell to Wayne State, 2-0, and Fort Hays State, 3-0. Post sits at 4-6 on the young season.
 
Junior Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) was 3-for-7 on the day and has gotten a hit in each of the previous four games and nine of the last 10. Junior Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) had the lone extra-base hit of the day with a double against Wayne State. Freshman Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) stole her third base of the season. Freshman Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) allowed two runs and struck out two in seven innings pitched.
 
Game One – Wayne State 2, Post 0
Back-to-back singles with two outs in the top of the sixth inning pushed across the first run for Wayne State. Megan Hagemann drove in another run for the Wildcats to put them up 2-0 after six.
 
Senior Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) singled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Junior Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) walked and Udris followed with a single to load the bases. DeMartino flew out to centerfield to end the threat.
 
Both teams had a few chances early in the game. Kelcie Bormann tripled with two outs in the second inning, but failed to score. DeMartino led-off the bottom of the frame with a double. She was stranded there after three quick outs. The Eagles hit into double plays to end the fourth and fifth innings.
 
Game Two – Fort Hays State 3, Post 0
The first three batters of the second inning reached for Post but the Eagles were unable to push a run across. Juniors Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) hit back-to-back singles. Esque drew a walk to load the bases. Sclafani was forced out at the plate for the second out. May flew out to end the frame.
 
Post loaded the bases again in the third inning. After a ground out by Iacomini, Udris hit a single. Sclafani and Erb followed with walks. The Eagles were unable to score as Esque grounded out ending the threat.
 
Courtney Dobson doubled with two outs in the fourth inning. Maddie Holub homered to drive in the first two runs of the game. Bianca Adame put the Tigers ahead 3-0 with a single in the fifth inning.
 
Freshman Kimberly Yano (Blauvelt, N.Y.) walked to begin the seventh. Junior Stephanie Mendez (White Plains, N.Y.) singled to put runners at first and second with no outs. Iacomini reached on a fielder's choice as Yano was forced out at third. Udris popped up to the shortstop for the final out.
 
Udris finished the NTC Spring Games with 12 hits including three home runs and seven runs batted in to lead the Eagles. May had 10 hits and seven runs scored. Esque recorded seven hits, six runs batted in, and allowed just two runs in 16 innings pitched and struck out 10 batters.
 
Post will be back in action on Monday, March 11 for its home-opener against UMass-Lowell. The doubleheader begins at 2 p.m at LaMoy Field.
