PHILADELPHIA, PA (November 2, 2009) The Post University Men's Soccer team has advanced to the semi-finals of the 2009 CACC tournament. Maurice Johnson netted both goals in the Eagles 2-0 win over Holy Family Monday.
“We went down expecting to have a good result away from home,” said head coach
Ted Haley. “We had plenty of confidence after last year's run at the end of the season resulting in a championship. We took it one step at a time, played well defensively, and are looking forward to Wednesday's game against Nyack.”
Johnson scored the eventual winner 8:36 into the first half, blasting the ball past Tiger keeper Mark Ferretti for the unassisted goal. Johnson's second came at 76:21 off
Johan Pineda's corner kick.
Errol Reid made 2 saves on the day for the Eagles.
On the same side of the tournament bracket, Nyack College upset 23rd ranked Dominican 2-1. Post University will take on Nyack Wednesday in Wilmington, Del. Coming into the tournament the Eagles were ranked 6th and Nyack was 7th.
“Nyack is a team that we played to a 1-1 draw with earlier this season on the road,” said Haley. “We were not playing well at that point. I feel we have gained confidence and have become better since then.”
