NEW HAVEN, Conn (August 27, 2010) Weeks before the 2010 Post University women’s tennis team is scheduled to play their first match, student-athletes and head coach Rob Howard spent a day at the Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament in New Haven. The Eagles taught young athletes the techniques of the game while working in the “Kids Zone.”

“It was great to give back to kids in the community and teach them the sport of tennis,” said Kelsey Lengyel-Jacovich, Post University senior. “Not many of the kids had a wealth of tennis experience so we were able to break them into the game. The experience helped me realize how tennis is much more than a game and the impact it could have on our lives is great.”

Instruction was based on a United States Tennis Association initiative called “Quick Start Tennis.” The program is designed to teach new tennis players how to play the game on a smaller court with a modified scoring structure using specialized racquets and balls tailored for beginners.

“Community service is a very important piece of the puzzle as a college athlete,” said Howard. “Post University’s student-athletes are fortunate to be able to play at the collegiate level and it is good for them to give back to the sport and the community. Everyone was a beginner at one point, to help new players develop a love for the sport makes me proud of my team.”

Post University will play its first match of the season on September 8th against Caldwell at home.
