CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Junior Anthony Ortiz (Barkhamsted, Conn.) of the Post University track and field team finished 12 in the decathlon at the UNC Charlotte 49er Classic held Thursday and Friday in Charlotte.
 
Ortiz opened day one of the event with a fifth-place finish in a field of 15 in the 100m dash, clocking in at 11.52 seconds. He placed third in the long jump at a distance of 6.50m and followed that with sixth place in the shot put at 10.66m. Ortiz rounded out the day with a height of 1.54m in the high jump, placing 11^th.
 
He found himself in sixth place after the first day with 3096 points.
 
Day two began with a seventh-place finish in the 110m hurdles at 17.40 and eighth place in the discus with a distance of 25.08. Ortiz had a javelin distance of 45.87m, good for fourth place. He was unable to complete a height in pole vault and did not finish the 1500m, due to an injury. Ortiz received 4576 total points in the two-day event.
