NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) of the Post University women's volleyball team was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. The setter leads the conference with 10.67 assists per set.
In a 2-1 week for Post, Root put up 113 assists to go with 35 digs and four service aces. In the Eagles 3-0 win over Felician, the freshman had 35 assists, three aces and a season-high 17 digs. She added 43 assists and 13 digs against Wilmington.
This season, Root has put up a total of 587 assists, 128 more than another competitor in the CACC. The total is currently good for sixth in Division II. She is third on Post with 143 digs and 12 aces. Root has recorded two of the three highest single-match assist totals for the Eagles since 2005, including the best with 61 against Southern New Hampshire.
Senior
Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) was named the honor roll. She led Post with 43 kills last week.
The Eagles are 10-5 on the year and 3-1 in CACC play. Post returns to action tonight at Nyack at 7 p.m.
