Three Eagles Named All-CACC, German and Root Earn Major Awards

German Named CACC Player of the Year for second straight season

WATERBURY, Conn. – Three members of the Post University women's volleyball team earned spots on the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) on Monday. Junior Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) was named Player of the Year for the second straight season, while freshman Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) earned Rookie of the Year honors. Senior Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) was named to the third team.

Both German and Root were named to the First Team. German led the CACC with a .355 hitting percentage and 447 total points. She was also top-10 in the conference in kills (355-2nd), kills per set (3.49-3rd), total blocks (96-6th), and solo blocks (18-9th). German had a season-high 27 kills in a win over Caldwell on Sept. 17. Against Nyack on Oct. 29, she hit .923 with 12 kills on 13 attempts, the second-best hitting percentage in the NCAA this season.

Root led the CACC and was 16th in Division II with 1,146 assists. She also had 272 digs, 33 blocks, and 17 service aces. Root earned Rookie of the Week honors twice this season. She recorded two of the Post's highest single-match assist totals since joining the NCAA, including 61 in a victory over Southern New Hampshire on Sept. 15.

Griffin had 296 kills on the year, good for 10th in the CACC. She added 289 digs, 46 total blocks, and 340 points. Last week against Bloomfield, Griffin posted the Eagles only 20-20 game of the season with 22 kills and 22 digs. She had 10 double-doubles on the year.

Post finished the regular season with a record of 22-9 overall and 15-4 in CACC play, earning the top overall seed in the upcoming tournament. The 2014 conference champions open their title defense on Tuesday night at home against Holy Family at 7 p.m.
