CPTV Sports Call of Record-Breaking Point
Waterbury, Conn. - She will go down as one of, if not the greatest player in school history, and on Tuesday night, senior
Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) put a stamp on her magnificent career.
Her 32 points were more than enough for the Post University women's basketball team as Latham broke the school scoring record in a 91-62 drubbing of Concordia at the Drubner Center.
The magic moment came at the 9:08 mark in the first half when Latham hit two free throws - the first to tie the record, the second to break it - after being fouled by Tara Ann-Rock on a drive to the hoop. Play was stopped and her teammates, coach
Stephen Schuler, and former record holder
Tracey Garofalo (1,510 points) mobbed her on the court in celebration.
The game itself was never in doubt. The Eagles jumped out to a 17-4 lead in the first five minutes, thanks to who else, Latham, who scored five points in the stretch. She also got help from senior
Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) and sophomore
Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) to help stamp Post's ownership of the game.
After going up 20-10 on a Latham free-throw with 13:32 lead, the Eagles led in double digits the rest of the way. The Eagles would go into the half with a 59-29 lead. Latham led the way with 22 points in the half. Freshman
Liz Falcigno (Middletown, Conn.) had nine points.
The Eagles shot 43.2 percent from the field in the half.
But the night belonged to Latham. The reigning Central Athletic Collegiate Conference player of the week and leading scorer this season had an amazing night shooting overall, going 10-of-22 from the field and sinking 11 of her 12 free throws.
The second half wasn't much different than the first as the Eagles thwarted any attempt of a comeback from the Clippers, extendning the winless season (0-16, 0-9 CACC). The Eagles improved their record to 5-9 overall and 5-3 in the CACC.
Wright-James finished with seven points and 12 rebounds.
Jessica Ayala (Middletown, N.Y.) came off the bench for an impressive 12 points and six rebounds. Griffin finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.
