Eagles Cruise To 79-50 Home Victory Against Concordia

Strong Leads Four Eagles In Double-Figures With 15 Points

Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team picked up its second-consecutive victory on Tuesday night as it defeated Concordia, 79-50, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup. The Eagles improve to 4-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

Senior Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) led all scorers with 15 points on the night. He also added five rebounds, four assists, and six steals. Senior Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) scored 14 points and grabbed five boards. Classmates Stephen Perry Jr. (Westhampton, N.J.) and Devin Willis (Seattle, Wash.) were both in double-figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The Eagles went up 10-3 on a three-pointer by Willis at the 14:00 mark of the first half. Concordia answered with a 7-0 run to tied the game. From there it was all Post as the Eagles exploded to a 24-10 run to end the half and went into the break ahead 34-20.

Strong was 3-for-4 from behind the arc in the first half. Senior Josh Tatum (Greenville, N.C.) grabbed seven of his game-high eight boards in the first.

The second half was much of the same as the Clippers never managed to get closer than 12 points. A layup by Cummings off a dish from Strong put the Eagles ahead 47-27 at the 15:47 mark of the second. Post led by as many as 34 points before it was over.

Post grabbed 48 rebounds on the night, its most in any game this season, while the Clippers only managed 35 boards. It's just the second game this year the Eagles have outrebounded their opponent with the other also coming against Concordia. Post forced 18 turnovers which led to 23 points.

Norman Pope, the third-leading scorer in the CACC, was held to just eight points, well below his average of 21.4 per game. Andrew Peacock led the Clippers with 13 points.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at home against Felician. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
