Post Loses 92-60 Contest To CACC North Division Preseason Favorite Bloomfield

WATERBURY, Conn. – Despite a career-high 13 points from freshman Gediminas Juozapavicius (Kedainai, Lithuania) in his first collegiate start, the Post University men's basketball team dropped a 92-60 decision to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Bloomfield on Thursday night at the Drubner Center. The Eagles trailed by just four points at the intermission.
 
Juozapavicius shot 5-for-10 from the field in the game and went 3-for-4 at the foul line. He added three rebounds, one assist and one block. Junior Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) added 10 points and five boards for Post.
 
With the Eagles down 24-16 and 9:21 to play in the opening stanza, junior Stephen Perry (Westampton, N.J.) and senior Sarunas Jackson (Inland Empire, Calif.) nailed back-to-back jumpers to pull Post within four, 24-20, with 8:46 to play in the stanza. However, Bloomfield's Matt Hall, Steve Henderson and Dondre Whitmore hit consecutive triples to push the Deacons' lead to 33-20. The 13-point margin was the largest of the period.
 
Juozapavicius jump started a 7-0 Post (9-5, 5-2 CACC) run over a span of 1:12 to cut its deficit to 37-33 with 2:33 to go in the first half. The teams traded three-pointers to close out the half, including one by Perry to make the score 40-36 at the intermission.
 
Bloomfield (7-7, 5-1 CACC) opened the second half on a 24-8 run over a span of 7:11 to extend its lead to 20 points and put the game out of reach. The score after the spurt was 64-44.
 
The Eagles committed just eight turnovers in the game and assisted on 14 baskets, led by five helpers from senior guard Jake Wilcox (Kent, Wash.). Junior Jonathan Annan (Staten Island, N.Y.) added three assists and one steal. He netted five points in a career-best 21 minutes of action.
 
Post will take to the road and travel to Philadelphia University for a conference contest with the Rams on Saturday, Jan. 5. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. Philadelphia sits atop the CACC South Division with a record of 7-5 overall and a 3-1 mark in conference action.
