Box Score

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Powered by the first career hat trick by junior forward Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn.) the Post University men's soccer team earned its first victory of the season over American International College to conclude play at the Merrimack Invitational. The final score was 3-0.

Baccielo totaled four shots, all of which were on goal, while sophomore Terrell Whitting (Naugautck, Conn.) and Kevin Ipina (Danbury, Conn.) added on and two assists, respectively, for the Post (1-1) offense. Senior goalkeeper Errol Reid (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) made seven saves for his first clean sheet of the season.

The Eagles and Baccielo opened the scoring in the 28th minute when he fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box and found the back of the net for the squad's first goal of the season. At the 30:10 mark, Whitting fed Baccielo from across the box, and Baccielo buried a shot into the upper right corner to give Post a 2-0 lead.

Baccielo capped his hat trick in the 57th minute. After Ipina took an initial shot that was saved by AIC (0-2) goalkeeper, Jason Ryan, Baccielo finished the rebound to give Post the 3-0 margin.

The last time a Post player netted three goals in a single game was Maurice Johnson on Oct. 25, 2009 against Chestnut Hill.

Despite the win, the Eagles were outshot 14-9 in the match and the Yellow Jackets held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.

Fresh off its first win of the season, Post will put its 10-match home unbeaten streak on the line on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles will host the Le Moyne Dolphins in a non-conference tilt at LaMoy Field.
