Post Golf Wins Division II Academic National Championship In GCAA 2012 Team Academic Awards

Eagles Garner Prestigious Academic Award From Golf Coaches Association Of America Presented By Farmers Insurance

NORMAN, Okla. – The Post University men's golf team was named the 2012 Academic National Champions on Wednesday. The announcement was made by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) when it released the 2012 Team Academic Awards presented by Farmers Insurance. The Eagles garnered the academic distinction after a strong season on the links, as Post appeared in its first ever NCAA Division II national championship.

“I'm very proud of our golf program and its accomplishments,” head coach Pete Stevens said. “This award exemplifies the mission of the NCAA and Post University. The combination of strong academia and athletic competition at the highest level produces well-rounded young men and women who will greatly contribute to our society upon graduation; I am honored to be part of that mission.”

As a team, Post was the lone team in Division II to earn President's Special Recognition with a team grade-point average of 3.50 or better. Additionally, the Eagles were one of 14 teams with a GPA of 3.00 or higher.

Three members of the squad were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Spring All-Academic Team in June. Thomas Rees (Cardiff, Wales), Nick Cavallo (Watertown, Conn.) and Ross Earnshaw (York, England) were all lauded. Rees and Earnshaw also picked up Division II PING All-East Region honors following the 2011-12 season.

The Division I Academic National Champion was DePaul, while Manhattanville, Bethel College (Kan.), Dodge City Community College and South Mountain Community College claimed the Division III, NAIA, NJCAA DI and NJCAA DII titles, respectively.

To be eligible for the GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.

Post will begin the 2012-13 season at the Century Link Intercollegiate in Goldsboro, N.C. The three-day event will begin on Sept. 9.
