Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team got three straight defensive stops in the final 45 seconds of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game against Concordia Tuesday night at the Drubner Center. The defensive stands helped the Eagles to a 56-54 victory and snap a two-game losing streak.

The Post defense, which held the Clippers to 30.2 percent shooting from the field in the game, forced Concordia to miss its final three shots of the game. The biggest stop came from senior Josh Lopez (Anchorage, Alaska), when he took a charge on Brandon Whitaker with 23 seconds to play.

In a game that featured nine ties, five of which came in the second half, the Eagles held the Clippers to just 18 points in the final stanza. With 10:51 to play in the game, sophomore Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) hit a baseline jumper to give Post (9-13, 7-6 CACC) a 50-48 lead, one it would not relinquish. The lead grew to as many as five, 56-51, with 3:33 to play on a Krischer triple.

Post opened the game on an 11-4 run over the first 5:45 of the matchup. During the spurt Lopez and senior James Lee (Montclair, N.J.) scored four points apiece. Lopez hit a jumper and a pair of free throws, while Lee contributed with a layup and a put-back.

However, Concordia (10-13, 7-8 CACC) answered with an 11-4 run of its own to even the score at 15-15 with 11:34 to play on a Norman Pope layup.

The Eagles grew their first half lead as large as 10 points, 29-19, after the squad scored seven straight points over a span of 57 seconds. A three-pointer from sophomore Krischer started the spurt. Lee added a jumper and junior Jake Wilcox (Kent, Wash.) capped the spurt with a triple.

Over the final 4:54 of the first half, the Clippers chipped away at the 10-point deficit and turned it into a one-point halftime advantage. Concordia closed the period on a 17-6 run. The score at the break was 36-35 in favor of the Clippers.

In the game, Lee led the Eagles with 15 points on 7-for-15 shooting. He grabbed eight rebounds. Lopez and Krischer each added 12 points for Post. Argelix Gil led all scorers with 16 points and 19 rebounds for Concordia.

The Eagles will travel to Caldwell College on Thursday, Feb. 9 for a CACC contest. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. When the team's met in Waterbury, Post cruised past Caldwell 91-64.
