Post Loses At Philadelphia In CACC Quarters, 74-52

Eagles Conclude Season At 13-15 Overall, In Second Place In CACC North With 11-7 Mark

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Post University men's basketball season came to a close in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) quarterfinals on Saturday night at Philadelphia University. The Eagles dropped a 74-52 decision to the host Rams. Post concludes the 2011-12 season with an overall record of 13-15, and 11-7 in conference play.
 
Junior Sarunas Jackson (Corona, Calif.) led Post with 12 points. He scored six of his points at the foul line. Senior Geraldo Fernandez (Monticello, N.Y.) and junior Jerry Cummings (La Plata, Md.) added nine points each.
 
Over a span of 6:18 during the second half, Philadelphia (19-8 overall) used an 18-4 spurt to take a 24-point lead, 58-34, its largest of the game. The only two Post buckets during the run came from Fernandez and Jackson. Sophomore Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) snapped the run with a triple at the 7:44 mark of the second half.
 
After Philadelphia scored the first six points of the contest, Post responded with a 10-2 run over the next 4:13 to claim a 10-8 advantage with 10:06 to play in the opening stanza. Junior Jake Wilcox (Kent, Wash.) began the spurt with a layup. Jackson added four points, while Dontay Sanford (Compton, Calif.) and Cummings capped the run with a pair of layups.
 
With 7:10 to play in the first half and the score 15-14 in favor of the Rams, the home team used an 8-0 run to take a 23-16 lead with 3:41 remaining before halftime. Philadelphia grew its first half lead as large as 10 on two occasions, with the latter 32-22 with 31 seconds to play in the period.
 
Senior James Lee (Montclair, N.J.) scored the final two Post baskets of the first half. He and Jackson scored eight points apiece in the opening period.
 
For the game, Philadelphia shot 56.9 percent (29-for-51), while Post was held to 33.3 percent (19-for-57) shooting from the field. Individually, Nick Christian led the Rams with 19 points, and Nick Schlitzer added a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Philadelphia advanced to the CACC Semifinals with the win, while the loss for the Eagles snapped a streak of consecutive wins.
