Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn.), the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Player of the Year and first team all-conference choice, added an academic award to his resume on Thursday night. He was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher and be enrolled at the institution for more than two semesters. The award recognizes individuals for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. By virtue of his first team selection, Baccielo is eligible for Academic All-American status.
Baccielo finished the regular season ranked second in the CACC in points (34) and third in the conference in goals (13). He also tied for second in the conference in assists with eight. Nationally, Baccielo sits ninth in total points, 12
th in total goals, 15
th in points per game and 22
nd in goals per game. During the regular season, Baccielo was named the CACC Player of the Week on Sept. 24, and ECAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 25. In the week prior to his awards he tallied nine points in two matches, including a hat trick in a 4-0 win over Wilmington on Sept. 22. He was named All-CACC First Team.
#25 Post will take the pitch in the CACC semifinals on Friday, Nov. 2. The top-seeded Eagles will meet fifth-seeded Wilmington with the opening touch slated for noon. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children, senior citizens and students with valid ID.
