WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball team participated in the “Walk In Their Footsteps Race For Awareness” to benefit the St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury on Sunday. The Eagles raised over $750 for the organization. The event was held at Library Park.
“I think the girls made the decision to get out into the local community and give back because they have been given a great opportunity to enhance their lives through college athletics,” head coach
Stephen Schuler said. “We look forward to continuously giving back to the local community in any way we can in the future.”
The event raised funds and awareness for the programs of St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury, Inc. The team walked 2.5 miles, visited a soup kitchen, homeless shelter and thrift store. Following the walk, the program presented the money it raised to the foundation.
The non-profit organization provides housing, services and basic needs to adults and families struggling with homelessness, poverty, hunger, and mental illness, so that they may achieve their highest potential in the areas of wellness, recovery and independence.
The Eagles will open the 2012-13 season on Friday, Nov. 9, when they take on St. Rose in the Queens Tournament. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
