WATERBURY, Conn. – A last-second shot by Caldwell's Jeanette Anderson was the difference as Post University fell 71-69 to Caldwell on Thursday, Jan. 26 at the Drubner Center. The Eagles now fall to 4-13 overall and 2-8 in Central Atlantic Athletic Conference (CACC) play.
The Eagles got off to a quick start as they went ahead 13-6 at the 15:11 mark of the first.
Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Kelli Reynolds (Milford, Conn.) combined for eight points over the early stretch. Caldwell pushed ahead over the next eight minutes, and a layup by Emily Caswell at 7:58 gave the Cougars their largest lead of the period at 24-15.
A layup with 40 second left by
Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) cut the deficit to two and the Eagles went into the locker room down 35-32.
An 11-6 run to start the second capped off by a Reynolds jumper helped the Eagles build a 47-41 lead at the 16:06 mark of the period. Caldwell responded with a 14-7 run of their own to take a 55-54 advantage with 8:53 left to play.
Post took the lead back on a Chance layup at 7:25 and extended their advantage to 61-56 with 5:28 left. Out of a time out, Caldwell dribbled the clock down and Anderson shot a layup, missed, grabbed her own board and floated it in as time expired for the victory.
Chance finished with 20 points and 17 boards which was good for her fourth double-double of the year. She also blocked four shots on the night. Latham also tallied a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. She also dished out a game-high five assists. Reynolds and Pugh finished with 19 points and 15 points, respectively.
Post held an 18-12 advantage on second-chance points and outscored the Cougars 17-10 off turnovers.
