WATERBURY, Conn. (November 30, 2011) The Post University men's basketball team was defeated on Wednesday night by C.W. Post in their first game at Drubner this season. The Eagles have now dropped five games in a row heading into conference play.
The Eagles came out hot early going ahead by seven at 12-5 after five minutes of play, punctuated by an emphatic dunk by James Lee off a Pioneers turnover. C.W. Post came firing back on the play of Stefan Bonneau, who scored 10 points in the half. They took a seven point lead at 27-20 with 7:02 remaining. The Eagles came back to cut it to one at 29-28, but headed into the locker room down 37-32.
C.W. Post came out of the locker room on a 17-5 run to break the game wide open as they lead 54-37, led by Tobin Carberry who scored 12 points during the stretch. The Eagles started using the press on the Pioneers next possession and started to create turnovers and grab momentum. Post had five steals over the next five minutes and cut the lead to 57-51 with 10:41 left.
C.W. Post grabbed momentum back minutes later on an alley-oop from Carberry to Bonneau and rolled to the 77-65 victory. Carberry led the Pioneers in scoring, finishing with 24 on the night.
The Eagles had four players in double-digit scoring on the night, led by Josh Lopez with 13. Jake Wilcox had a great game across the board with 11 points, seven rebound, and eight assists.
As a team the Eagles played well defensively, causing 21 turnovers which led to 26 points. Post struggled on the glass and were outrebounded 45-23. The Pioneers had 16 offensive boards which led to 17 second chance points.
The Eagles will be back at home on Saturday afternoon as they open CACC play against Felician.
